What gets read?

When you open Kind Words, it checks LinkedIn’s login cookies and reads your name and picture, to show who is signed in. When you press Get my recommendations, it reads what people wrote about you. For each one, that means the writer’s name, title, photo and profile address, the date, and what they wrote.

Where does that information go?

Kind Words has no server and talks only to LinkedIn, over a secure connection, so nothing it reads ever reaches weirdOS or anyone else. The recommendations stay in Chrome, ready for the builder, and the look you pick there is kept for next time. If you sign out of LinkedIn or a different account signs in, the panel drops the saved read. Each photo is copied in too, because LinkedIn’s own links to the photos stop working after a while. The extension has no analytics, ads or tracking.

Can Kind Words change my LinkedIn?

No. Kind Words only reads. It will not post, message anyone or change your account. The extension also never sees your password, because you sign in on LinkedIn itself.

Where do the code and the file go?

Both are made right in your browser and go only where you put them. Each carries its own copies of the photos, so the recommendations show on your site without loading anything from LinkedIn.

What are the permissions for?

• Your data on linkedin.com and licdn.com. To read the recommendations and the photos that go with them.
• Cookies. To check the LinkedIn login, and to ask for your recommendations the way LinkedIn’s own page does. Kind Words reads only LinkedIn’s cookies and leaves them exactly as they were.
• The tab you are on, only after you press the button. So the Kind Words panel can open there. Kind Words reads nothing on that site and adds only the panel.
• Scripting. To show the panel over that page. And if the first read misses some, Kind Words opens your LinkedIn recommendations page in a background tab, reads the rest and closes it.
• Storage. To keep the recommendations, their photos and your builder settings in Chrome, with room for a very long list.

Which rules apply?

Kind Words follows the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including its Limited Use requirements. The LinkedIn data is used only to build your recommendations section, and it is never sold or shared.

What about this site?

Vercel serves these pages and keeps standard server logs, meaning an IP address, a browser name and the page requested. The site sets no cookies and runs no analytics.

How do I delete my data?

Press Start over in the panel to clear your recommendations, or remove the extension and everything it kept goes with it. None of it ever reaches us, so there is nothing to delete on our side. You can still write to us and we will answer.

This extension is not aimed at anyone under 16.

Changes

Any revision moves the date at the top.
